Veterans advocate and animal welfare champion Lois Pope is partnering with the Palm Beach County School District to sponsor a contest for elementary and middle school children to name the dog featured on the American Military Hero Dog Monument. The Monument, located outside the Lois Pope Pet Clinic on the grounds of the Tri-County Animal Rescue in Boca Raton, is a national tribute to the thousands of courageous canines who have served in the five branches of the Armed Forces, from the Civil War to today.
Kids: all you have to do is submit either a short video or your own artwork with a paragraph with your proposed dog name and why you think it is the best one for the American Military Hero Dog by October 4th. There will be one elementary school and one middle school winner. Each winner and their school, who will be announced on October 19th, will receive $2,500 at a winner's ceremony on November 11th!

- Diana Fedderman, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning at PBSCD
- Dr. Robin Ganzert, President and CEO of American Humane Society
- Bob Miller, member of the board of Lois Pope's LIFE Foundation
- Austin Weishel, sculptor of the American Military Hero Dog Monument
In order to be eligible to win, you must submit the following below:
- EITHER a piece of artwork with a paragraph OR a video with your name, grade, your hero dog name choice and why
- The submission in a SHARED link (Google Drive, iCloud, OneDrive, etc.) so the judges can see your submission
